One man show

After MGR regime many actors entered in politics but none stayed more than one decade. Superstar had an excellent opening to politics in the mid of 1990s but he failed to utilize it properly. The latest actor-turned politician is Vijayakanth, who entered in politics by floating a new party named Desiya Murpoku Dravida Kazhagam.

The Hindu -CNN-IBN Poll conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) indicates…..

“The one significant presence outside the two fronts is the DMDK led by Vijaykant — which may secure as much as five per cent of the popular vote. That is quite an impressive beginning for a party that does not have a recognised symbol.”

Both DMK and ADMK had realized only the alliance arithmetic would help them to regain the power, tried to pull DMDK’s supremo Vijayakanth to their side. But, he clearly isolated himself from both the front and decided to meet the people by his own strength. His party does not have known faces; does not have recognized symbol but facing the election with the do-gooder image of Vijayakanth- clearly a one man show.

We have to wait and see whether the actor’s entry makes a significant change in Tamilnadu politics.
