The Big Fight

As of today, Sun network is one of the predominant leder in Indian media. Without a tough competitor so far they emerged as a single monopoly in the business and extended their boundaries to all kind of communication medium which includes news papers Dinakaran, Tamil Murasu, magazines Kungumam, Mutharam, Vannathirai, radio Suriyan FM etc., Though it has excellent programs, drama, more or less a moderate news, able administration of Kalanidhi Maran, its back bone lies on a political party till the mid of last year. Both the party and Sun network has a tremendous growth in last 10 years with the help of each other.

After a split, the party has launched its own channel Kalaignar TV in last September. Before starting the telecast itself the TV started to provide necessary shocks to SUN Network by take on the front running anchors / Producers from Sun TV and getting the rights of all latest movies right from Pudhupettai, Shivaji to Dasavatharam. The TV which created much expectations while inaugration failed to hold the viewers due to its boring serials. I could not able to find a website for this TV in net.
On the other hand Star Vijay, a channel which attracted more number of youth in recent past through their real time and talk shows like Jodi no:1, Kaathalika Neramillai, Neeya Naana, Kalaka Poovathu Yaaru, Grand Master, Koffee with Anu, Lollu Sabha etc., Undoubtfully Vijay TV has given a different shades to tamil satellite channel through their programs. Marketing is one of their biggest asset. If they continue with the same strategy, surely will become a bigger threat to SUN TV soon. The programs Masthaana Masthaana, Ooh la la la, Asatha poovathu Yaaru on SUN TV are just cloned from Vijay.

Now its time for Sun TV to refresh the strategy to tackle the competitors from both the ends. People like a channel based on the programs and its unbiased news. Clearly understanding this, Sun TV news is telecasted in fair and even handed manner. We can able to see Jayalalitha, Vaiko, Captain very often in news which are rare in the past. Due to its fair news, the TV got much reputation in public. Still holding the prime time is a major plus. If they come up with some innovative programs instead of copying from another channel will help them to retain their position.

Apart from these satellite channels mentioned above people has the option to choose Raj TV, Raj Digital, Raj Plus, Jaya TV, Jaya Max, Jaya Plus, Makkal Tholaikatchi, Win TV, Tamilan TV, K TV, Sun Music, Sun News, Mega TV etc.,

Now-a-days, it is clearly evident that a channel cannot sustain in market without a political support. Parties too clearly understood the situation and using this channels as one of their major political wing. The outcome of this fact is the AIADMK’s Jaya TV and PMK’s Makkal Tholaikatchi (inaugurated by kalaignar). The managing director of Vasanth & Co and MLA of Naanguneri Constituency H.Vasantha Kumar of Congress party is going to kick start a new channel VASANTH TV soon. Only parties which does not have TV are Vaiko’s MDMK, Captain's DMDK and Sarath Kumar’s AIS…?? (Oops I forgot the name).

BTW, Captain, why can’t you think of a separate channel for DMDK? which will help much more during the next assembly election.

Nice analysis. Except Makkal TV, all others are just the same. And makkal tv is also boring these days. Just like blog aggregators if there is a TV channel aggregator that hand picks or allows us to pick items that we would like to watch would be a lot better... I trust the technology, someday this might happen (Already Pay-per-view movies are there isn't it :) )

If we are able to see them "very often", is it really fair news?

It is written in the sence, we are able to see them with their day-to-day statements.

"Jayalalithaa on Saturday criticised Union Shipping Minister T.R. Baalu for his remarks against the Chief of Naval Staff Sureeh Mehta on the Sethusamudram project. She reiterated her stand that the project would affect the livelihood of fishermen and pose a threat to the security of the country, besides destroying a national heritage of the country." -- This statement is issued completely against the state and cental ruling party which is telecasted as it is in Sun News yesterday.

Couple of weeks back they telecasted the clash between the Captain's DMDK and AIADMK when homage was paid to MGR statue in Madurai.

Now regularly showing Vaiko and Ramadoss Protest and statement against the ruling DMK government.
